I constructed the main portion of this bracelet using the twining method of basket weaving. A lot of intense work goes into this kind of construction. Read below to learn more.
You will receive the exact bracelet shown here. The handcrafted nature of this item makes it absolutely unique. Even if I duplicated all of the steps taken in making this one no other bracelet will have its exact features.
Should you wish to have a bracelet like this one custom made to fit, and/or would like it made in Copper instead of the Sterling Silver, please send me a conversation so I can build a special reserved listing just for you.
I hand-cut every piece of the 18 gauge warp wires. Then I spent 3-4 hours, with a butane torch melting both ends of each warp wire into round heads. After the torch, the sterling silver ball ended sticks soaked in a citric acid pickle bath to remove the oxidation and return the sterling to its bright white color. I use citric acid because it is less caustic and is a naturally occurring substance that is safer for the environment than other types of acid pickles. From there the pins went into my tumbler for 12 hours to work harden and make them shine brightly.
For the weaving itself, I used 26 gauge sterling silver wire on spools, and one by one I wove the individual warp pins using the twining method I learned from Mary Tucker (http://www.etsy.com/listing/86259095/twining-with-wire-lesson-tutorial) whose wire work is absolutely stunning.
It took more than 11 hours of steady weaving to complete the main portion of this bracelet. After that, I put on the finishing touches by filing and smoothing any rough spots, shaping, adding on the multiple lengths of chain and a clasp. The next step was to give the bright silver a dark patina, follow with some hand polishing and then return the cuff to the tumbler for a 24 hours to give it more polish, shine, and to finish work hardening.
