While it is feasible to open and close the smaller 16 and 14 gauge captive bead rings just using your bare hands, once you get to 12g, 10g, 8g, and 6g rings you need this special tool.
I offer this tool to my customers who are also purchasing one of my collars in which I've used repurposed captive bead or captive segment rings as a clasp.
Please note that it is important to squeeze gently while gradually applying only enough pressure to allow the captive bead or segment to be removed or replaced. Too much pressure can cause the stainless steel to warp open so far that there will no longer be enough tension to set the segment or captive bead back into place.
Be cautious until you get the feel for how these work with your repurposed body piercing clasp.
