I've been feeling a bit bold in my designing mood the past few weeks, and it is showing in the small collection of bangles I completed in May 2013. I've used copper tubing and heavy gauge copper wire to create this bangle. Once I finish sculpting and shaping the piece, I put it into a tumbler with stainless steel shot, dawn dish soap, and water for 24-48 hours in order to bring the raw copper to a beautiful pink luster and shine.
After it's tumbled and dry, I coat it with a product called protecta-clear, which locks in the color and shine and prevents oxidation. This coating, while it is scratch and wear resistant, will wear off over time: a couple of months of daily wear and a year or so of occasional wear. So if you like your copper to remain bright I recommend investing in some of this product yourself to re-coat the piece periodically as needed.
I know that shopping for Bangles online can be a bit of a challenge, since you want the bangle to be able to squeeze over your hand, but not go on so easily that it will simply fall off when you are just walking along through your day. For that reason I've included a picture (see the 5th thumbnail) on how to measure your hand for fitting purposes on a bangle.
I am a plus sized woman; commercially made bangles are always either too tiny to get on or too large for wear without having to keep the arm with the bracelets above the level of my heart all the time. So I measured my hand at the fat part across my thumb knuckle while holding my hand in the same position I use to wiggle into a bangle. It measures 8 inches with the tape pulled really tight. I have discovered that I can wiggle into (with work) bangles with an inner circumference as small as 7 & 3/8ths of an inch. But I cannot get into bangles that are smaller. Bangles that measure the full 8 inches are too large on my wrist and they just look odd, even though they are a breeze to put on.
The ideal fit for me seems to be between the 7&3/8ths and the 7.5 inch sizes. I hope that will help you, my friendly shopper, to be able to figure out if one of these bangles will be just right for you.
So, here's some math for you. Look for a bangle that is between 4 & 5 eighths of an inch smaller than that measurement around the fattest part of your hand. Or if you like a looser fit something about 1/4 inch smaller than that measurement. The bangle will require a bit of work to wiggle into, but once on it will be secure and not flop around and look over-sized.
You will receive the exact item pictured. I've only done one piece like this and I won't be making another. So you will be the only person in the world with this lovely piece.
